Foliations for Quasi-fuchsian 3-manifolds

In this paper, we prove that if a quasi-Fuchsian 3-manifold contains a minimal surface whose principle curvature is less than 1, then it admits a foliation such that each leaf is a surface of constant mean curvature. The key method that we use here is volume preserving mean curvature flow.

A Quasi-isometric Embedding Algorithm

The Whitney embedding theorem gives an upper bound on the smallest embedding dimension of a manifold. If a data set lies on a manifold, a random projection into this reduced dimension will retain the manifold structure. Here we present an algorithm to find a projection that distorts the data as little as possible.

Geometric Quasi - Isometric Embeddings Into

We show that F has an infinite family of quasi-isometrically embedded subgroups of the form F m × Zn, for integral m, n ≥ 0. These subgroups have simple geometric but more complicated algebraic descriptions We present them to illustrate the intricate geometry of Thompson’s group F as well as the interplay between its standard finite and infinite presentations.
